Detroit’s Gordie Howe Bridge nears completion, promising smoother Canada trade and faster crossings.

The Gordie Howe Bridge, just north of downtown Detroit has now been connected to Canada, officially. It's been an undertaking years in the making, and still won't open to travel until sometime next year. It's a huge feat, and was met with applause from workers on either side of the border...

They better hurry before they close the gap.

U.S. and Canadian officials have agreed to allow a multi-use pedestrian bike path on the Gordie Howe International Bridge border crossing between Detroit, MI and Windsor, Canada.

Officials mistake players numbers all the time it happens in every sport. It is one thing if that number is on the ice. It's another when it is the number of one of the greatest players in the history of the sport.

The cable-stayed bridge is going to be the the longest in North America, and that height of the bridge towers will rival the Renaissance Center.

Gordie Howe has his own statue at the Joe Louis Arena.  He is set to have another one unveiled when a new exhibit opens at the Hockey Hall Of Fame in Toronto.

One of the highlights of the recent Centennial Classic between the Red Wings and the Maple Leafs was the announcement of 33 of 100 Greatest Players in The NHL.  The Detroit Red Wings were well represented on this list.

As the Red Wings embark on their 90th season, (they started life as the Detroit Cougars in 1926), my editor ran across this video nugget. Sixty four years ago today, Canada's first nationally televised game featured the Red Wings and the Montreal Canadiens.

The Detroit Red Wings will pay tribute to "Mr. Hockey", Gordie Howe, on opening night, October 17th, and throughout the season.
