A warrant is being sought by Battle Creek police after a woman and her father were assaulted in what appears to be a racially motivated hate crime.

30-year-old Andre Yarbrough and his girlfriend 27-year-old Heather Arredondo were in Calhoun County Court Friday for a preliminary examination, stemming from the incident that happened November 30.

A 27 year old Battle Creek woman is now the 2nd person arraigned on charges connected to the Sunday night assault on Battle Creek Police Officer Jeff Johnson.

The assault is reported to have occurred between and 3p.m. and 5p.m. Saturday near Lawson Ice Arena.

Battle Creek Police were called at around 8:00 am to a residence located in the 100 block of Waweenork Road

Dawson Burk was arraigned on charges in two separate cases; he was first charged with two first-degree criminal sexual conduct counts for the alleged rape of the 12-year-old.

The 20 year old suspect accused of impregnating and later assaulting a 12 year old girl is now in police custody.

The Calhoun County Sheriff's Office says that they got a call around 3:30am Wednesday about a man with a gun in the 100 block of Avenue C in Springfield.

The 43-year-old man, who had cuts on his hands, wrist, and shoulder, said that the they been arguing when he was slapped and had his hair pulled by his girlfriend; she then grabbed a knife and started swinging at him.
