Meet the Michigan woman who won a Gold medal for the Women's Hockey team. Yesterday was a magical moment as the USA women’s hockey team was able to capture gold as they defeated Canada two to one in overtime, with the game-winning goal being scored by a woman who was born and raised in Michigan.

Megan Keller raised in Farmington Hills, Michigan, and last night in overtime just passed four minutes of play in overtime, she made a spectacular move, which led to the game-winning goal.

The goal is very reminiscent of Darren McCarthy‘s game-winning goal against the Philadelphia Flyers in the 1997 Stanley Cup finals, and even prompted the Detroit Red Wings legend to acknowledge the similarity and wish her congratulations on winning gold.

Inside The Rink featured Keller and discussed some of her career highlights:

Keller is considered one of the greatest American defensive women’s hockey players. Keller was named assistant captain for PWHL Boston in their inaugural season and signed a 3-year contract in 2022.

The profile, which was published in late 2024, also highlights her contributions to younger women in the sport and ventures off the ice:

Keller runs her hockey camp “Megan Keller Hockey Camp” during the summer. Her last camp was this past June in Farmington Hills, Michigan. She is very close friends with a former Team USA teammate, Amanda Kessel. Kessel is also the manager of minor league operations for the Pittsburgh Penguins of the National Hockey League. They run their own podcast together called the Keller and Kess show.
